Cannabis Butter

Take 100 grams of Bud (or trim) and 500 grams of Butter. Decarboxylate (heat gently in the oven) and break up the Bud and then place it into a slow cooker with the butter - add a liter of water.

Heating cannabis

The addition of the water helps to keep the temperature down and the additional volume allows for more plant material to be added so you get a stronger butter. As cannabinoids are soluble in butter and not in water the oils will be dissolved into the butter. Let the mix simmer on a low heat for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes or so. When you are satisfied that all the cannabinoids have been extracted from the Bud and into the butter turn off the heat and allow to cool.
.....A cafetière is the easiest way to filter out the unwanted plant material.
Straining the butter
.....After filtering the oil and butter mix through the cafetière - pour into an empty plastic milk container.

.....Carefully position the container upside down in the refrigerator (the case of beer is optional).
Cannabis butter in container
After a few hours the butter has risen to the surface and solidified, it’s then a simple matter to hold the container over a sink or faucet - carefully remove the container screw cap allowing the water to pour away. Cutting apart the plastic container exposes the Cannabis Butter, it can be used straight away or you may prefer to clarify the butter for quality and storage.
Finished butter
To further purify (clarify) the Cannabis Butter you can reheat the frozen mixture and spoon off any scum that rises to the surface. This will produce a purer butter known as Ghee (clarified butter). This cannabis butter can now be used in making your cannabis edibles.
